White Rocks the White House!
Earth, Wind & Fire perform at the Obama’s first formal White House dinner …
From SWR’s Washington, D.C., bureau comes this report from special correspondent Verdine White.
The Earth, Wind & Fire bassist and longtime SWR friend sent in these great photos, taken at the White House on Sunday, Feb. 22. The band performed that evening at the 2009 Governors Dinner, the first formal White House dinner hosted by President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.
Performing in the White House’s cavernous East Room, Earth, Wind & Fire appeared at the event at the invitation of the president and first lady, who were hosting the National Governors Association that day. The evening also featured a performance by the Marine Corps band.
“It was truly an honor to be the first band to perform at the White House during such a historic moment in our time,” White said. “President and Mrs. Obama were such gracious hosts; just completely charming. And really a lot of fun to play for!”
So how does it feel to be one of the favorite acts of the most powerful man in the world?
“Earth, Wind & Fire is certainly proud to be in his iPod,” White said, laughing. “I guess you could say that we’re now officially part of the first 100 days!”
